This month, we interviewed Catherine, owner of Momentum Coaching & Counselling Services, who shared some advice with us that she’s learned throughout her life and career. 💜

Q: Who has been your greatest female influence / inspiration?

Gloria Steinham – is and was one of the original feminist leaders in the movement – she has a quote: “who says you can’t wear lipstick to your own revolution”. She taught us that being pretty and beautiful doesn’t mean you can’t be serious and professional.

Q: What was your biggest aha moment that shaped you to become who you are today?

Motherhood was a massive aha moment because it has been my greatest teacher and continues to be good and bad, I’ve met the best parts of myself and the worst parts of myself through motherhood, and through this cultural construct about the duties and expectations of women.

Q: If you could write something on a billboard for the whole world to see, what would it be?

Slow it down and smooth it out. So often in life, everything is about being quick, getting to the next thing, achieving the next thing, the next day, the next problem… take a breath, slow it down, smooth out the edges of the issue, not everything is a panic and doesn’t need to be.

Q: What advice would you give your younger self?

Ask yourself whose goals are you trying to achieve? As women, many of our “goals” are inherited through culture. Don’t define yourself based on the template you’ve been given – women especially socially inherit a template from our culture – this is what success/ motherhood/ beauty should look like – and we adopt their template and live by those limits – when in fact, we are limitless.
